Christine Powers is a licensed independent clinical social worker who earned her Master of Social Work Degree from the University of New Hampshire. Christine serves as Consultant and Trainer regarding Evidence-Based Practices for the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center to the New Hampshire Bureau of Mental Health Services, where she works on the implementation, development, monitoring and quality improvement for Supported Employment (SE), Assertive Community Treatment (ACT), Illness Management and Recovery (IMR), and First Episode Psychosis Services (FEP). She provides training, consultation and fidelity evaluation for Community Mental Health Centers and the State mental health system. Christine maintains a private practice where she provides individual and family counseling, consultation and supervision. Christine has experience in community and inpatient mental health settings. She has experience worked in a Community Mental Health Center on an intensive services team and as a Senior Social Worker at New Hampshire Hospital.

Peter Brown, LMSW, is a Case Manager with St. Patrick Center in St. Louis, supporting homeless and near-homeless veterans in getting or retaining permanent housing. He also completed the InterPlay Life Practice Program, and is now a Leader-in Training of that system of improvisational movement, storytelling, and music.

Jennie Lannette Bedsworth, LCSW, is a mid-Missouri trauma and anxiety therapist at The Counseling Palette. She co-leads the development of the Self-Care & Resiliency Room at the Spring Institute. She specializes in evidence-based practices such as trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy and prolonged exposure. She incorporates mindfulness, art and movement as needed for individualized treatment and also mentors and trains other helping professionals. Presentation: Learn about body mindfulness, movement, and playful healing with clients. Jennie and Peter will describe the basics of InterPlay, a program based in honoring your body spirit with easy, incremental movement and related arts. This will be an active event held in the Self Care & Resiliency Station. Come ready to participate, play, and de-stress while also learning some actual healing movements you can incorporate for yourself and clients.

Objectives:

  • Reveal new mindfulness techniques

Tracy, Samantha, MA, LPC

Samantha has worked within the mental health and social service fields for the past 10 years. She holds a master’s degree in counseling and is a Missouri Licensed Professional Counselor. Samantha currently works at the Community Support Supervisor and Employment Services Supervisor for Gibson Recovery Center. Samantha works with our local CIT teams as well as CHOP (Coalition for Heroin and Opioid Prevention). She has experience working with various community agencies and resources to connect them to substance use services as well as helping staff connect to the agencies. Samantha is currently working with STR funding to establish Medication Assisted Treatment services at Gibson Recovery Center.

Janice has worked within the mental health field for the past 10 years. She holds a master’s degree in counseling, is a Missouri Licensed Professional Counselor, and a National Board Certified Counselor. Janice currently works at the director of Outpatient Services for Gibson Recovery Center. She teaches the Counselor in Training classes for Gibson Recovery Center where she helps new counselors learn about their duties, rights, responsibilities, tools, counseling theories, Medication Assisted Treatment, and techniques to succeed in their positions. Janice has presented at local Bipolar Support Alliance groups, local community fundraising groups, is a past conference presenter, and has spoken to case managers, nurses, and other staff at various agencies about best practices in the area of mental health and substance use disorders

Menzies, Suneal

Suneal Menzies is the Executive Director of the Assisted Recovery Centers of America. Mr. Menzies oversees daily programming, business operations, program implementation, and community outreach for the Midwest region. He has been a key player in the development, implementation, and ongoing management of ARCA’s tele-medicine program, which is one of the first tele-medicine platforms specifically focusing on addictive disorders and related behavioral health and primary care conditions. Over the past 12 years, Mr. Menzies has also had the opportunity to consult for various organizations in the addiction field, including pharmaceutical companies and government groups. He is the founder and managing partner of Recovery House, a transitional living program in St. Louis. Mr. Menzies currently serves on the board for Archway Institute for Mental Health and Addictive Disorders, as well as the board of the Muscular Dystrophy Association of St. Louis. He received his BS in biology, economics and psychology from St Louis University.

Mr. Adams has been in the treatment and prevention field for over 30 years, spending the last 30 with Southeast Missouri Behavioral Health. Dan was in the first Missouri cohort to receive Medication Assisted Recovery (MARS) certification. Currently, he is the Director of Program Services with SEMOBH and oversees programming in SEMO’s 17 sites in Missouri.

Cox, Robert, MA, LPC

Robert Cox is the author of “The Life Recovery Method: Autism Treatment From a Trauma Perspective”, a therapist specializing in Trauma, Addictions, and IDD including Autism. He has lectured and trainings are available worldwide. In the second edition of his book he adds material about energy processing difficulties and how they affect individuals with IDD and autism.
