The speakers will present a brief overview of hoarding disorder as it is conceptualized from three points of view; hoarding as a mental illness and best practices to treat the hoarder and family, as a bio-hazard and what safe clean up of the property entails and as a legal challenge to protect the rights and privacy of all parties involved. A model for the integration of these viewpoints will be outlined, suggestions on how to design and organize teams for specific situations will be offered. A case study illustrating application of the model will be presented with participate role-playing exercises. Attendees will be provided educational materials to offer those who suffer from hoarding disorder, handouts and lists of resources and supportive organizations to facilitate implementation of the approach.

Janice Bunch, MA, NCC, LPC, SQP, has worked within the mental health field for the past 8 years. She holds a Master’s Degree in Counseling, is a Missouri Licensed Professional Counselor, and a National Board Certified Counselor. She has supervised case managers for the past 6 years and has helped to develop the case management department at Gibson Recovery Center. Janice has presented at local Bipolar Support Alliance groups, local community fundraising groups, and has spoken to case managers at luncheons in their area about collaboration of services.

Wobbe, MA, LPC, Amy

Amy Wobbe, MA, LPC, has studied trauma and treated trauma for almost 10 years. She currently leads the trauma informed project for BJC Behavioral Health, and does trauma education and consulting in other entities of BJC’s hospitals. Ms. Wobbe has provided trauma education and presentations to other community entities such as St. Charles Community College. She serves as an ambassador for St. Louis Health Commissions’ Alive and Well campaign and has written articles for Mental Health America regarding trauma and toxic stress. She has also provided formal trauma informed trainings for medical staff at BJC Behavioral Health.

Through this presentation, participants will know and understand the definitions of trauma, toxic stress, and the prevalence of each. The presenter will review the ACE study and its relevance to today’s current medical issues. She will also discuss the medical impacts of trauma and how this affects interpersonal effectiveness, the five components of Trauma Informed and the meaning of it, and the four stages of being trauma informed. Participants will leave able to apply the first phase of awareness in their current roles.

As Associate Director, Clinical Affairs, Dr. Leah LaRue provides education around Millennium Health offerings with a goal of improving clinical outcomes and patient safety. Dr. LaRue has considerable experience in the areas of pain management and addiction, being primarily focused on initiatives supporting the safe and effective use of opioids, as well as issues surrounding medication misuse, abuse, and diversion. She has lectured extensively on topics covering pharmacogenetics, pain management, mental health disorders, and urine drug monitoring. She was named the 2013 Industry Pain Educator of the Year by the American Society of Pain Educators and is a recipient of the St. Louis College of Pharmacy’s Distinguished Young Alumnus Award. Dr. LaRue earned a Doctor of Pharmacy degree with honors from the St. Louis College of Pharmacy and is a licensed registered pharmacist in Missouri.

Personalizing Medication Management with Pharmacogenetic Testing (PGT) and Urine Drug Testing (UDT) in Mental Health

Through the use of case studies in Mental Health, this program will demonstrate how PGT and UDT results may provide more complete information about current medication use, medication efficacy, and adverse effects. Participants will learn how genetic variability can influence medication efficacy and toxicity, as well as conceptualize how PGT may provide valuable data for personalized therapy. Discussion will include differentiating the advantages and limitations of the various types of UDTs and interpreting results in the context of a patient’s clinical presentation.
